Beta 3 is now available
Fixes include:
- Sorting in list view now works as expected
- Fixed issue with budget info not drawing background properly
- More small visual tweaks
Beta 3 is more of an intermediate release covering a few small fixes. We are now hard at work on Beta 4 which will bring importing improvements and the smart import rules editor.

Hello, I just wanted to leave some feedback about Beta 3. I downloaded it earlier this morning, excited for an update to my 1.2 version, and I have to say my experience was awful. I tried to create a new budget - about 20 times - each time Cha-Ching crashed. It wouldn’t load “Edit account” screens correctly, I had to restart the app a few times. I ended up just going back to my faithful but definitely not as visually appealing 1.2. I’m not sure if anyone else had the same issues?
I upgraded from 1.2 to 2.0 beta 3 because of issues that I have previously contacted support about (and never received a response). It seems they’re fixed, from what I recall, but now there’s new ones.
I am still in the process of entering a lot of data from pdfs of my bank statements. There was a nice feature where if you were in an account and set the filter bar for incoming and reconciled, or outgoing and reconciled, when you made a new entry it would default to whatever you’ve set the filter bar to. Now I have to uncheck the “pending” box and mark each transaction as reconciled for EVERY SINGLE ITEM because the filter bar no longer sets this preference, even though you can pull it down and filter that way. This is super annoying, and wastes a ton of my time.
Also, 2.0 Beta 3 expires today and I’m worried I’ll experience data loss even though I’m a registered customer? Will you do as most moronic companies do when setting timebombs (I’m looking at you, Skitch and AppFresh) and just release the exact same app again, but with the timebomb pushed back? Don’t do this stupid expires stuff if you can’t stick to the date.
Count me in as one more guy whose “Beta 3″ expired. For everyday use apps like these, I request you to be really careful about managing the “expiry dates”.
Or To repeat what Tom said above:
“Don’t do this stupid expires stuff if you can’t stick to the date.”
Otherwise, a good beta and enjoyed using it everyday!

@Tom
Fortunately, when I change system date back by 1 day and opened the app, data is still there.
But, for obvious reasons, I can’t keep my system date out of sync with actual date.
I just downloaded beta 3 and it says it is already expired also.
@appleboi: What I meant by data loss is if I have to switch back to 1.2.3 or whatever the previous version was, the database might be “updated” and thus won’t work with previous versions.
They’ve posted in the forums that beta 4 would be out in 1 hour. However, they posted this 4 hours ago.

I noticed that also. I have no access to my checkbook and Midnight Apps doesn’t seems to care. How hard is it to edit the expiration date and release the old beta a day before it expires so that your customers can still use their checkbooks? Why promise something and not stick to it? It is unacceptable for any company to keep their users from their data like this. I have stuck with Midnight Apps for a while through the release of Beta 2 (after numerous delays) but have lost a lot of faith in them after this little stunt. In other news they have been hard at work on an iPhone app. Anyone waiting to access their checkbook information could care less about the iPhone app at the moment. It is not that we don’t want to see one, we just want to be able to access our data without the fear of something stupid like this happening. When you state you have been working on another app it makes everyone worried that your priorities are in the wrong place. which is a sure fire way to lose lots of dedicated customers. PLEASE RELEASE A USABLE BETA FOR YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS BEFORE YOU LOSE THEM!
Beta 4 is there, however the link is still for beta 3. Here is the url for beta 4 http://meddiecatsoft.cachefly.net/chaching_2b4.zip
@iamjediknight
Thanks for the link. Midnight Apps needs to get their act together and get the link posted for beta 4 before they lose customers!
Here’s the forum thread for Beta 4:

@anothermacfan don’t use beta software in a production environment. They already have a useable version for you to use: v1
Sorry for the lack of a blog post for Beta 4…. We started the thread in the community and we will post more info on the blog today.
Junap: You have to be kidding. I stopped using the “stable” version because of all the huge bugs that I wrote in to support and got absolutely no response about. For example, if you imported a quicken file and it decided that it didn’t like the formatting (I checked it in Excel and it was fine), it placed a bunch of blank entries into the system that were UNDELETEABLE.
Not to mention the fact that it couldn’t read PERFECTLY FINE csvs. Nor to mention the fact that it wouldn’t save a form field unless you’d switched fields. Imagine typing in the price, hitting save, and then you’ve created an entry that doesn’t have a price because you didn’t change fields. Oh, hey, you can do that very easily in 1.2.2-macheist! I have the support mail with the proof if the issue in my sent box, dated Mar 11, 2008, STILL NOT RESPONDED TO.
